Licensure Only Special Admits (LOSA) Status in School Counseling
Applicability:
Individuals with a Master's degree seeking to enroll in any master's level coursework in School Counseling in order to fulfill state licensure requirements (i.e., Utah State Office of Education) will have their application for courses considered by the CCP faculty based on the criteria and policies specified below for Licensure Only Special Admit (LOSA) status.
Timing:
The CCP faculty admissions committee will consider and review such applicants during its regular Spring admissions process. Applicants for certification only or (LOSA) MUST apply for admission in the School Counseling program following the same procedures as an new applicant for the master’s program. The deadline for completing an application for the Professional Counseling program is December 15. This means that you must complete the application form for Graduate Study and pay the application fees, as well as provide the necessary paperwork that is part of the admissions process by the December 15th deadline.
Enrollment Limits:
In order to maintain the quality of training in our courses, we will limit LOSA status to a minimum number of students depending on our resources. This means that the application process is competitive as we generally have a number of requests for LOSA status.
General Requirements:
1. Provide Evidence of a Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling, or a closely-related field.
2. Either:
(a) submit a USOE review of your transcript if you are pursuing School Counseling licensure (preferred method),
or
(b) meet with the master's training coordinator to identify courses for a plan of study related to licensure.
3. Submit:
- a formal departmental application (with accompanying $55.00 application fee made payable to the Department of Educational Psychology)
- official graduate transcript(s)
- Three (3) letters of reference
- Letter of support from master’s training coordinator
- Complete a non-matriculating student application (deadlines and applications can be found at: http://www.sa.utah.edu/admiss/nonMatAdm.html)
