Licensure Only Special Admits (LOSA) Status in School Counseling

Applicability:

Individuals with a Master's degree seeking to enroll in any master's level coursework in School Counseling in order to fulfill state licensure requirements (i.e., Utah State Office of Education) will be considered based on the criteria and policies specified below for Licensure Only Special Admits (LOSA) status.

Timing:

The committee will consider and review such applicants during its regular Spring admissions process. Applicants should ensure that they have met the steps below prior to the admissions meeting. Approval would be for the following academic year.

Enrollment Limits:

In order to maintain the quality of training in our courses, we will limit LOSA status to a minimum number of students depending on our resources.

General Requirements:

1. Provide Evidence of a Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, or a field closely-related to school counseling.

2. Either:

(a) submit a USOE review of your transcript if you are pursuing School Counseling licensure,

or

(b) meet with the master's training coordinator to identify courses for a plan of study related to licensure.

3. To be eligible to enroll in four or more courses or to be eligible to enroll in any one of the following:

EDPS 6210 Counseling Skills
EDPS 6250 Family Counseling for School Based Problems
EDPS 6330 Career Counseling
EDPS 6340 Substance Abuse
EDPS 6709 Practicum in School Counseling
EDPS 6821 Professional Issues in School Counseling
EDPS 6900 Internship in School Counseling


You must submit:

(a) a formal departmental application
(b) official graduate transcript(s)
(c) Graduate Record Examination scores
(d) Three (3) letters of reference
(e) Letter of support from master's training coordinator

4. If you do not require any of the courses listed in #3 and you require fewer than four courses, you will only be required to fulfill #1 and #2 above, along with your graduate transcript, GRE scores, and letters of reference. A letter of support from the master's training coordinator is also required.
